Absolute AoA: Successful Launch and Unboxing the Future of Flight Safety
We are thrilled to announce that the Absolute AoA launch has been a resounding success! We have successfully shipped units to our initial supporting customers, and the feedback has already begun to pour in. We are incredibly grateful for the trust you place in us to enhance your flight safety.
Here is what some of our happy customers are saying about their first impressions:
“Just received my Absolute AoA System. Packaged exceptionally well. I appreciate the extras packed into the box as well. Looking forward to getting the system installed!”
“The Absolute AOA system was packaged well and arrived in good condition. I appreciated the inclusion of the bench testing kit as a bonus! I’m excited to install the system in my airplane, I like the design philosophy of the system.”
What’s In the Box?
When your Absolute AoA arrives, you will find a comprehensive kit designed for a seamless installation. According to the product manual, the package includes1:
- One Probe: Precision-machined from 6061-grade Aluminum.
- One Sensor Unit (SU): Comes attached to Red, Green, and Blue air hoses with a Y-connector.
- One CPU: The central processing unit for the system.
- One Display Unit: The visual interface for your cockpit.
- One Android HMI Unit: A dedicated Human Machine Interface device included for setup and calibration.
- Hardware: Screws and washers to securely fix the Probe to the inspection plate.
- Extras: Stickers, labels, and decals.
Key Features: True Lift, Total Safety
The Absolute AoA System is designed to be a powerful Single Pilot Resource Management (SRM) tool. Unlike legacy systems that rely on simple stall warnings; this system uses an advanced Normalized Pressure Ratio method to provide a linear lift gauge across all phases of flight—unaffected by density altitude or aircraft loading.
- Multi-Sensor Precision: Utilizes four airflow ports and multiple pressure sensors for accurate readings in all phases, including Vx, Vy, and Best Glide.
- LiDAR Flap Auto-Detection: Automatically detects flap positions without any physical connection to the aircraft’s flap system.
- Connectivity Choices: Choose between WiFi (wireless) or a wired connection for sensor-to-processor communication.
- Flexible Power: Wireless connections can draw power from wing or nav lights to reduce installation time.
- Custom Audio Tones: Features 400 Hz and 1600 Hz tones and pulse rates (similar to Navy and Air Force standards) to indicate flight phases, plus voice annunciations like “Getting Slow.”
- Lift Reserve Display: Visual feedback on the aerodynamic margin above stall.
- Over-the-Air (OTA) Updates: Keep your firmware and features up to date wirelessly.
Installation Location Guidelines
Proper placement is critical for accurate performance. For general installation, mount the probe on a flat area under the wing, near the leading edge. It should be positioned within 60% of the wing’s chord length, measured excluding flap or Aileron. The most preferred location is within 16 inches of the leading edge.
Intelligent Probe Design & Icing Protection
The Absolute AoA Probe is built from high-quality 6061 aluminum for precision and durability. It has been engineered with specific practical considerations:
- Water Management: The air intake channels feature a significant slope, ensuring that water drains naturally and does not remain on the sensor.
- Heater Ready: The anchoring screw hole in the forward position features a deep cavity suitable for installing an appropriate heating element.
- Customizable: There is sufficient surface area on the probe to drill an extra hole if needed for most standard-sized heating elements (heating elements are not supplied in the kit).
The Solution for Complex Wings: The AoA Flap Scanner Pod
We listened to feedback from owners of twin-engine aircraft and those with complex wing configurations who faced challenges finding a suitable mounting location near the flaps.
To solve this, we introduced the AoA Flap Scanner Pod as an optional add-on.
- Separate Housing: This durable, aircraft-quality aluminum housing allows the LiDAR sensor to be mounted away from the main probe.
- Drainage: The Pod includes a dedicated drain hole to allow accumulated moisture or condensation to escape safely.
- Seamless Integration: If you purchase the Pod, we install the Flap Scanner (LiDAR) into the Pod for you. We also provide a dummy LiDAR insert to fill the cavity in the main AoA Probe, ensuring a clean aerodynamic profile.
